Do y'all ever read a book that is well written, the author has your attention but the plot is so tense that you want to put it down but can't? Sort of make ya feel that you are reading against your will?
I just hate books such as those. I am reading one now.

Re: Books that are too intense
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 8:34 AMI really like Dan Brown's books also - but I think it's Angels and Demons where I got mad at the ending. I don't really want to give away the ending, but I'm not even Catholic and I was a bit miffed. -

Re: Books that are too intense
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 9:28 AMI know what all-ya'll mean about Brown's books, though I haven't read "Angels... yet. The Davinci Code was a page turner, so damn hard to put down - yet the devices he used were pretty transparent and maybe even poorly used - but it was instead his research and the details, and the possiblilty (from the hype) that all this is close to the truth that kept me going, even when I saw through the suspensful devices. I was raised Lutheran so "Angels and Demons" will probably make me cheer! -

Re: Books that are too intense
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 2:39 PMWow, it's wierd that this all came up. I read it about a year and a half ago, and my boss asked to borrow it two days ago. Once i picked it up, i started re-reading it and couldn't put it down until i [re] finished it...Joel, i remember thinking the same thing when i first read it, but got hooked on the conspiracy itself. -

Re: Books that are too intense
Thu, May 5, 2005 - 3:44 PMTrying to think of who could have taken Brown's outline, and research, and turned it in to something monstrosly wonderful. Patterson? Sandford? King (Stephen)? Conroy (ooohhh, mix the language of "Beach Music" or "The Prince of Tides" with Brown's research....drool, slurp.....)
